Serbian javelin thrower wins European silver

ZURICH -- Serbian javelin thrower Tatjana Jelača, who holds the national record, has won the silver medal at the European Athletics Championships in Zurich.

With a 64.21 m throw in the fifth attempt, Jelača improved her personal best, 62.68 m, by 1.53 m.

It was the second medal for Serbia at this year's European Championships after long jumper Ivana Španovic won the silver medal on Wednesday with a 6.81 m leap.

All six of Jelača's attempts were over 60 m (60.98 m, 60.51 m, 62.31 m, 60.25 m, 64.21 m and 60.30 m).

Barbora Špotakova won the gold medal (64.41 m), while the bronze went to Germany's Linda Stahl (63.91 m).
