Patient’s relatives break doctor’s arm in Adana

The relatives of a patient have beaten a doctor and broken his arm in the emergency section of a hospital in Turkey's southern province of Adana.

An unidentified patient was brought to the emergency section of the Adana State Hospital by his relatives late on Aug. 17. The patient reportedly fell while walking after consuming a large amount of alcohol.

Doctor Cem Kurt requested a brain tomography for the patient after his first examination, and the patient had to be sent to another hospital for the tomography. The relatives claim that they were waiting for a long time before they attacked Kurt.

The suspects, identified only as M.D., İ.S., A.S. and A.E., beat the doctor in the emergency section and broke Kurt’s arm. All of the suspected attackers were detained by the police.

Adana Chamber of Doctors head Dr. H. Neslihan Önenli Mungan visited Kurt in the hospital.

“Violence against doctors is very saddening. Our colleague did his job without any mistakes. He requested a further test for an emergency patient, which is very normal. However, he was subject to violence beyond his broken arm, he now has psychological trauma. All violence against health workers is unacceptable,” said Mungan.
