Health minister: Asylum seekers under special supervision
BELGRADE - African asylum seekers illegally crossing into Serbia are treated with particular care to prevent the Ebola virus from reaching the country, Serbian Minister of Health Zlatibor Loncar said on Wednesday.
All asylum seekers who enter the country are registered in collaboration with the police and their movement is monitored, Loncar told reporters at a conference titled Protection of Motherhood in Serbia.
"We make sure that, when they arrive in asylum centres, they do not mingle with the people who are already in those centres," Loncar said.
Weekly meetings are held with the directors of infectious disease clinics and epidemiologists to analyse the situation and ensure that the system is ready to respond in case the Ebola virus emerges in the country, the health minister said.
