"Delicate moment" for OSCE chairmanship

SALZBURG -- Foreign Minister and First Deputy PM Ivica Dačić says Serbia will be taking over the chairmanship of the OSCE in a delicate and complicated moment for Europe.

He stressed that the participation of the OSCE in resolving the Ukrainian crisis was "further confirmation of the relevance and organization."

Dačić made the remarks while addressing a panel discussion during a conference dedicated to the First World War held in Salzburg, Austria.

"Considering the constant disputes in the world," Dačić stressed, they must be resolved by peaceful means, in accordance with international law, as envisaged by the UN Charter.

He added that international factors, in accordance with their influence on the international stage, should contribute to the calming of the crises in Ukraine, Iraq, the Middle East, Syria, and work on finding "sustainable and durable solutions."

"The experience of the Western Balkans in the 1990s shows that conflicts can be overcome, as evidenced by the improving cooperation between countries in the region," said Dačić.

The Serbian official reiterated that the European Union was "the best framework for all countries in the region, in which it will be the easiest to achieve their individual interests."

"The process of European integration is a historic endeavor that requires great effort and rationality of actors, and Serbia is determined to persevere in this process," said Dačić.

He pointed out that Kosovo is Serbia's most important security issue, and added that Serbia is committed to the dialogue between Belgrade and Priština, as well as the implementation of all arrangements of the Brussels...
