Romanian Foreign Affairs Minister Titus Corlatean told the Annual Meeting of the Romanian Diplomacy on Wednesday that the potential generated by the current situation in Ukraine may also be used to readjust the relations between Kiev and Bucharest and pronounced for a climate of 'trust and friendship' between the two states.

In this respect, Corlatean explained it is necessary to identify the common security threats and risks on the one hand, while finding the political solutions, methods and actions that should lay the foundation of long-lasting peace in the region, on the other.

'Such an approach may fundamentally contribute to achieving mutually advantageous partnership with beneficial effects at bilateral and regional level. We wish to establish a climate of trust and friendship, with the created framework being able to facilitate promoting certain aspects of a priority interest for Romania, particularly the protection of the rights of the Romanian minority in Ukraine, in a European spirit', he underscored.

The Romanian top diplomat made an analysis of the situation in Ukraine, saying Kiev, at this moment, is being driven into a 'hybrid war', in which Russia seeks to exercise a type of political control of this state.

'The means and methods used in this type of conflict are various: they are political-military, economic-financial, social-identity, ethnic-religious and, last but not least, informational. Its major effects are the deepened internal political-economic and financial crisis /.../ and an exacerbation of extreme nationalism. Such dangers even more underscore the importance of establishing solid democracy based on a viable economy system, by way of efficient reform', Corlatean stressed.AGERPRES
