Serbia to develop sport following EU countries' experiences
BELGRADE - Serbia has launched developments in its sport system and it will draw on the experiences of EU countries on this path, Serbian Minister of Youth and Sports Vanja Udovicic said.
During the match between Serbian and Polish volleyball teams to open the 2014 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship in Warsaw on Saturday, Udovicic conferred with Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski and Minister of Sport and Tourism Andrzej Biernat, the Serbian Ministry of Sports stated in its release.
On this path, we will use the experiences of EU countries, especially those that had a system and setup similar to ours in the past, Udovicic said and added that the priorities of the ministry headed by him include improvement of the recreational and amateur sport, full responsibility and transparency in sport funding and club transformation and professionalisation.
He congratulated Poland on the organisation of the opening ceremony at the national stadium which was attended by the record 65 thousand viewers.
Udovicic used the chance to express gratitude for the assistance Poland provided to Serbia in the May floods and also to congratulate Prime Minister Donald Tusk on his recent appointment as the European Council chair.
Udovicic and President of the Serbian Volleyball Federation Aleksandar Boricic attended the special ceremony to open the FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship at the invitation by FIVB President Dr. Ary Graca.
