DS: Idea of all-party government - unfeasible

NOVI SAD - The Democratic Party (DS), the leading party in the ruling coalition in Vojvodina, has ruled out the initiative by leader of the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians Istvan Pastor for setting up an all-party government in Vojvodina.

Miroslav Vasin, chairman of the DS provincial committee for Vojvodina, is adamant that this idea is not feasible.

The Vojvodina assembly includes representatives of political parties that take different stances on the issues of importance for Vojvodina, he noted in a written statement sent to the media.

Vasin said that the DS takes a clear stand that cooperation with the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) is not possible, having in mind differences in the value systems that the two parties advocate for.

“The DS has always advocated for a multi-ethnic, civic and European Vojvodina, and that is not true for the SNS and some other political parties in the Vojvodina assembly,” Vasin says.

For Vojvodina to strengthen its constitutional position and autonomy and preserve its multi-ethnic character as the most cherished value, it is necessary that these very political forces that have strived to secure such a province now have the dominant role in creating the solutions for the most important political issues, Vasin underscores.

The DS believes that the ruling political parties in Vojvodina and the opposition New Democratic Party (NDS) represent such political forces, he said.

The initiative for forming an all-party government in Vojvodina has been espoused by the SNS, the main party in the ruling coalition at national level, which is in the opposition in Vojvodina.
