State leaders in Serbia affirm that on "Liberation Day of Belgrade", Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit, despite possible concerned looks from the West.

Yesterday at the Embassy of Russian Federation, "Blic" had not been able to verify that Vladimir Putin will be visiting Belgrade On October 19-20, although Serbian officials have confirmed his visit.

 

The formal invitation to Putin was instructed by the President of Serbia, Tomislav Nikolić, and his office has been working on the request. The visit was apparently last agreed upon at the residence of Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić in Moscow.

 

"Blic" has established through sources at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Serbia that Putin has still not officially confirmed his visit. Dušan Lazić, former Ambassador of Ukraine, explained that the Russian style of diplomacy is to keep options open and that we will not know for sure of Putin's visit until closer to the date of arrival.

 

The development of the crisis in Ukraine can largely affect the significance of the possible visit by Putin.

 

"We are still confident of Putin's visit. In Brussels, no one has reacted to the news of the visit, but it is sure that they will not be fond of the thought. Everything that will happen will depend severely on the development of the dilemma in Ukraine," clarified a source from the Government of Serbia who requested anonymity.
