PM Ponta: I hail Romania's receiving an extremely important portfolio in the EC

Prime Minister Victor Ponta on Wednesday hailed the fact that Romania has been given an extremely important portfolio in the European Commission - the one for regional policies - which represents "a success" for the country, and shows that its voice does count in Europe.

"This is a success for Romania and also a recognition of the fact that our country's voice does count in Europe, a recognition of the fact that we have important allies and partners and that we can act, in our turn, as a country worthy of its European Union membership. I am also totally convinced that, although we are talking about a Romanian Commissioner, Mrs Cretu will be in fact an European Commissioner and she will succeed in her activity as a member of the newly formed team of the European Commission to represent the interests of all the European citizens, while always keeping in mind what' important for Romania," the Prime Minister told a press conference at the Victoria Palace.
