Tasovac announces attendance at Belgrade Pride Parade
BELGRADE- Serbian Minister of Culture and Information Ivan Tasovac conferred with representatives of the Belgrade Pride Organisation Board Marko Ilic and Boban Stojanovic on Wednesday concerning the improvement of cooperation between institutions and the LGBT community, and voiced support to the event, adding that he would attend the forthcoming Pride Parade in Serbia's capital.
The representatives of the Belgrade Pride Organisation Board expressed understanding of the complex situation in the society, but they also noted that respect of minority rights is one of the achievements of a modern society and that conditions need to be created for their improvement, the Serbian Ministry of Culture and Information released.
Tasovac agreed with the Belgrade Pride representatives and noted that it is important to demonstrate tolerance in action through a personal example. He announced that he will attend the Pride Parade as a sign of his support to member of the LGBT population, the release states.
During the meeting, Tasovac and LGBT activists noted that freedom of a peaceful assembly and safety needs to be guaranteed for participants of the Pride Parade, and they agreed that conditions have been met for Serbia as a multicultural country to appreciate and accept all differences. This also entails raising the awareness about the existence of the LGBT population and acceptance of its members as compatriots with equal rights.
Tasovac also said that the Serbian Ministry of Culture and Information remains open for cooperation embodied in equal opportunities for everyone, including members of the LGBT community, who can apply with their projects to the Ministry for financial support within regular public calls.
