PM Ponta: If I become president, I will not use pardon right in high-profile corruption cases
Prime Minister Victor Ponta said on Friday that if he becomes the president of Romania, he will not pardon any person involved in high-profile corruption cases.
'As a principle speaking, if I become president I will not use this right of pardon in any case of violent crimes, crimes, rape, robbery and in any high-profile corruption case in any way. I think I would make a great mistake if I already started speaking of certain people, because when one is president, one must speak of what the constitution demands him to do and the manner one exercises such tasks', Ponta told Adevarul Live webcast when asked whether if he becomes the president of Romania he will pardon businessman Dan Voiculescu, currently serving a 10-year sentence for corruption.
