Premiere of multimedia spectacle '1914… i dalje' announced

NOVI SAD - The multimedia spectacle entitled '1914… i dalje' will see its premiere in Serbia in early November, the Serbian National Theatre in Novi Sad released on Friday.

An outcome of collaboration between Kronos Quartet, composer Aleksandra Vrebalov and film-maker Bill Morrison, the unique music and film project saw its New York premiere in April, after which it was presented in Edinburgh. The quartet piece with a film was created to mark the 100th anniversary of the beginning of World War I, and Serbian audience will have a chance to see it in Belgrade's Sava Centre on November 6, followed by a performance in Novi Sad's Serbian National Theatre on November 7.

At the heels of the spectacle premieres at Berkley and the Edinburgh festival where the piece won excellent reviews, the famous Kronos Quartet will begin its European tour by a performance for the Belgrade and Novi Sad audience, the spectacle reps told a news conference.

The piece for a quarter accompanied by a film is probably one of the most important events hosted in Serbia to mark the anniversary of World War I, Vice-President of the Government of AP Vojvodina and Provincial Secretary for Culture and Public Information Slavisa Grujic said, noting that as many people worldwide as possible should go and see the spectacle because it sends a strong anti-war message.

Composer Vrebalov addressed the reporters via Internet statement, noting that this is a huge project the realisation of which took a lot of time after the idea was originally created at the University of Berkley.
