Presidential candidate of the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) Kelemen Hunor is due to launch his presidential bid for this November's presidential election at the Sports Hall of Miercurea Ciuc today.

UDMR Secretary General Kovacs Peter told Agerpres that various video materials introducing Kelemen to the voters will be screened at the event, and UDMR's electioneering messages will be unveiled. Welcoming the participants will be Chairman of the Harghita County Council Borboly Csaba and Miercurea Ciuc Mayor Raduly Robert.

Also presented will be a video message from President of the European People's Party (EPP) Joseph Daul.

Kovacs said artists of the Magyar Opera House of Cluj will sing arias from famous musicals and that between 1,300 and 1,500 people are expected to attend.

UDMR's logo for this year's presidential election — 'Kelemen Hunor, the voice of a strong community!' — will also be unveiled.

Upon filing his presidential bid with the Central Electoral Bureau (BEC), Kelemen said the operative word of the presidential campaign will be respect, and that he will campaign for a strong Romania, with well-defined regions.

'We believe this campaigning should be steered toward messages that show Romania's role in the region, in the European Unio, what country it is to us all. We will show how we believe the future of the Hungarian community of Romania should look like. Romania is a security provider in its geographical region. Its partnership with the US should be of utmost relevance, but we are aware that Romania's current actions will provide more than just security in the entire Eastern European neighbourhood of the European Union,' said Kelemen explaining some of its campaigning issues.
