Miscevic: Serbia is committed to reforms and EU membership
BELGRADE- Head of Serbia's negotiating team in accession talks with the EU Tanja Miscevic met on Monday with a delegation of the German federal state Baden-Wuerttemberg, and stressed that Serbian government is committed to the reforms and that its aim is not EU membership alone, but a stable Serbia with strong institutions.
Miscevic thanked members of the delegation on their interest in the progress of Serbia's EU accession talks and emphasized that this is one of the most important years for Serbia in terms of the EU integration, considering that the negotiation process started in January.
"Our aim is not the membership in the European Union alone, but Serbia as a well-regulated and stable state with strong institutions," said Miscevic, and expressed her gratitude for Germany's support to Serbia during the May floods, the Serbian European Integration Office said in a release.
The delegation of the German federal state of Baden-Wuerttemberg is led by member of the state parliament Peter Hofelich, head of the committee for European and international affairs.
Hofelich pointed out that the visit is organized with an aim to inform the German MPs in more detail about the negotiations and the reform process in Serbia.
In other parts of Europe we see how important it is for the European Union to remain an open project, said Baden-Wuerttemberg's Minister for Bundesrat, Europe and International Affairs Peter Friedrich, who is also a member of the delegation.
In addition to the 69 projects in the areas of police work, education, culture and environmental protection that we are already conducting together, we hope that more projects will follow, particularly in the field of social welfare, he noted.
