Serbian industrial output drops by 4.3 percent
BELGRADE - Serbian industrial output dropped by 4.3 percent in the period between January and August 2014 compared to the same period last year, the Serbian statistical office said on Tuesday,
The industrial output in August was 13.1 percent lower than in August 2013 and 12.8 percent lower than last year's average.
Supplies of electricity, gas and steam and air conditioning registered a 39.8-percent drop in August this year, with mining and the processing industry dropping by 23.8 and 3.8 percent respectively relative to August 2013.
Compared to the same month last year, the outputs of energy and perishable consumer goods dropped by 28 and 6.4 percent respectively in August 2014, with a decline also registered in the outputs of intermediary products excluding energy (6.2 percent), capital products (4.8 percent) and non-perishable consumer goods (0.2 percent).
In August, the volume of industrial output dropped in 19 fields, which account for 82 percent of the industrial output, rising in 10 fields, which account for 18 percent of the industrial output.
Electricity production and coal mining had the greatest impact on the drop in industrial output, as did the manufacture of motor vehicles and trailers, production of chemicals and chemical products, as well as production of metal products excluding machinery.
Relative to July 2014, the seasonally adjusted index of industrial output for August indicates that the industry registered an overall drop of 0.3 percent, while the processing industry grew by 0.7 percent.
