DS and NS: Is the timing right to host Putin?
BELGRADE -- DS and NS Members of Parliament assessed that there is no doubt if Serbia should host such a "great leader" as Vladimir Putin, but questioned the timing of it.
The New Party (NS) President, Zoran Zivkovic, said that the " war between Russia and Ukraine is on", and therefore this is not the most favorable moment for Putin's visit.
"Serbia is hereby taking sides and does not really act everything according to the international law," said Zivkovic.
He also asked, why October 16 is designated as the day of Putin's visit, when the date on which Belgrade was liberated in World War II is October 20 in 1944.
Zivkovic said that the date was determined according to Putin's schedule.
Democratic Party MP Borislav Stefanovic said that Serbia is essential to extract economic benefits from Putin's visit.
Democratic Party MP Borislav Stefanovic pointed out that it is essential for Serbia to extract economic benefits from Putin's visit.
"What is the most important are economic results, as well as arrangements for the implementation of some of the agreements reached," said Stefanovic.
Stefanovic highlighted as a problem the fact that, as he said, ‘'the uncapable authorities do not know how to organize the celebration of the liberation of Belgrade on the very date on which it it happened, but when it suits them''.
