Stronger regional cooperation needed in ecology
VIENNA - Stronger regional cooperation is needed in the field of sustainable energy supplies, and investments pay off quickly, Serbian Minister of Agriculture and Environmental Protection Snezana Bogosavljevic Boskovic said in Vienna on Thursday at a Central European Initiative (CEI) ministerial conference on sustainable energy supplies.
The foundation of a selection of objectives and sector policies in the fields of economy, environment and energy consists of establishing the priorities and instruments based on a country's political orientation and aligning economic development to the process of European integration and UN activities at global level, the minister said.
Serbia has prepared a national study on green economy and sustainable growth - preliminary analyses indicate that a return on investment for the sectors of renewable energy sources and sustainable agricultural production in almost all segments will be ensured in just three to five years, Boskovic said.
Improving the cooperation among regional countries will contribute to making green economy and sustainability-related issues a special priority on the agendas of national and regional bodies, as well as to promoting investments into green economy, which will result in positive changes in socio-economic development, both at regional and global level, Boskovic said.
Energy production from biomass has been identified in Serbia as a great potential, which is also incorporated into the strategies adopted for the period until 2024, the minister said.
