PM Ponta: Romania belongs to all Romanians, regardless of religion
Prime Minister Victor Ponta said on Sunday, during a visit to Bistrita where he attended the consecration of the Annunciation Greek Catholic Church, that Romania belongs to all Romanians, regardless of religion.
"I attended the consecration of the Greek Catholic Church in Bistrita, at the invitation of the ecclesiastical authorities, and my primary objective was to send a clear message: Romanians belongs to all Romanians, the majority who are Orthodox, as I am, the Roman Catholics, the Greek Catholics, the Protestants and neo-Protestants, to all those who believe in something, believe in God and in front of God we are all equal. All those who believe in God, serve the country and respect the Constitution and the laws of the country are good Romanians and I want to make clear there will never be any sort of differentiation or discrimination," said the Premier.
Victor Ponta conveyed to all religious communities in Romania a message "of peace and cohabitation" and gave the example of the Ardeal area (Transylvania, central Romania), where people of various religions have been living together for hundreds of centuries.
In addition, Ponta assured that the Government will continue to support religious projects, whatever they may be.
Prime Minister Victor Ponta on Sunday paid a visit to the county of Bistrita-Nasaud (northern Romania) to attend the consecration of the Annunciation Greek Catholic Church in the municipality of Bistrita. The church service was conducted by Bishop of the Cluj-Gherla Eparchy, Florentin Crihalmeanu, and Bishop of the Lugoj Eparchy, Alexandru Mesian.
