Joksimovic: Positive talks with new EP rapporteur

BERLIN - Serbian Minister without portfolio in charge of European integration Jadranka Joksimovic began her visit to Berlin by talks with newly-appointed rapporteur for Serbia of the European Parliament (EP) David McAllister on Monday.

It is very important that we immediately established official contact with the new EP rapporteur, only some ten day after his appointment, Joksimovic told Tanjug and added that McAllister is yet to learn all the specifics about the problems and story of Serbia, which is why it is crucial to provide him with information about everything that Serbia is doing, including the number of launched reforms and the situation concerning European integration in the country.

She qualified as positive the fact that McAllister comes from Germany and the ruling CDU party, and expressed the belief that constructive and open relations would be soon established and that McAllister would be able to use his influence in EP to provide assistance to Serbia on its EU path.

She underscored that her meeting with McAllister was very positive and that she explained to him that economic and political reforms launched in Serbia bear vital importance, and assured him that the most important EU message to Serbia at this point would be the opening of a chapter in accession talks by the end of the year.

Joksimovic expressed the belief that the Monday meeting constitutes a good beginning of cooperation and that joint efforts would be invested to this end in the time to come.

She said that her several days' long visit to Germany would continue by further talks on Tuesday, in which she will strive to present the latest steps the government is implementing in Serbia.
