Germany supports reforms in Serbia

BERLIN - Serbian Minister without portfolio in charge of European integration Jadranka Joksimovic continued her official visit to Berlin on Tuesday by a working breakfast with Undersecretary of the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs Michael Roth.

Germany supports the numerous reforms conducted in Serbia and in this context, it will offer assistance and support to the country, Joksimovic said.

The meeting was important for presentation of the results Serbia has achieved in the European integration process, as well as the information and arguments concerning the benefits of opening one chapter in the accession negotiations by the end of the year.

According to Joksimovic, Roth demonstrated understanding for the very difficult reforms Serbia has launched.

In a statement for Tanjug, Joksimovic said that the Berlin government is aware of the fact the reforms are unpopular and painful and that there was talk of continuation of implementation of the Brussels agreement.

In the talks, she recalled that Belgrade has done a lot of work unilaterally, without waiting for the new government to be set up in Pristina that should take part in the political dialogue.

We explained that Serbia should not suffer negative consequences regarding the pace of the European integration process, she said and underscored that Serbia has done what it was supposed to do and that it is now up to the Bundestag and EU countries to evaluate the results.

Joksimovic began her official visit to Germany on Monday afternoon by a meeting with newly-appointed European Parliament rapporteur for Serbia David McAllister.
