Drecun: Tirana behind diversion, minister not responsible
BELGRADE, Oct 15 (Tanjug) - Chairman of the Serbian parliament Committee on Kosovo-Metohija Milovan Drecun qualified the incident during the football match between Serbia and Albania as a carefully planned diversion masterminded by official Tirana, and added that he does not see any responsibility as resting on Minister of Interior Affairs Nebojsa Stefanovic.
This is a brutal unprecedented attempt of abuse of a sports event for purposes of promotion of an anti-civilisation project which sends a strong destabilising message, Drecun said and added that such behaviour calls into question Albania's good intentions and renders the visit of the Albanian prime minister purposeless.
Until we receive an apology from Albania and until all responsible individuals are punished both in the Albanian Football Association and in official Tirana, I think it is pointless to discuss good neighbourly relations and improvement of ties, Drecun said.
He reiterated that this is not just an incident and in fact represents a carefully prepared action masterminded by Tirana officials, which is why Serbia may face similar provocations in the time to come.
He stated that the safety of the audience at the match was not jeopardised and that responsibility for the incident cannot be shifted to Serbia.
On Wednesday, the Democratic Party of Serbia and the Dveri Movement called on the Serbian interior minister to resign over the incident which occurred late on Tuesday.
