Traian Basescu will join the People's Movement Party (PMP) on December 22, 2014, the next day after he completes his tenure as head of state, PMP chairperson Elena Udrea told a press conference on Wednesday.

'President Traian Basescu on December 22 will join the People's Movement Party. Therefore, on December 22, the next day after he no longer is the President of Romania, he will request membership of the PMP. He is a member of the People's Movement Foundation, therefore he will join the People's Movement Party team,' Udrea pointed out, when asked if she knew about the political intentions of the head of state, in the context of the announcement made by her opponent Monica Macovei on the creation of a new political party after the presidential elections.

About the possibility of Basescu's taking over the PMP chairmanship once he joined the party in case she became president, Udrea said: 'Our party is not like the PSD. In our party, if we wish to change the party's leadership, we shall hold elections.'

'I don't know what Mr President will do. He only told us to find room for some pictures he would bring. We have already found the space,' the PMP candidate to the president office also said. AGERPRES
