IPP invites main candidates to an electoral debate
The Public Policies Institute (IPP) invites the main candidates to an electoral debate before the first round of the November 2 presidential elections following a format in use in other countries as well.
In a press release issued on Thursday, IPP suggests that the debate be held next Wednesday in the evening at Parliament Palace and attended by six candidates based on a ranking of the vote intentions: Victor Ponta, Klaus Iohannis, Elena Udrea, Calin Popescu Tariceanu, Teodor Melescanu and Monica Macovei.
IPP also suggests that the debate be moderated by four moderators, calling on the television channels wanting to broadcast the debate to appoint one moderator each. Each moderator would moderate a section of the debate. There would be four themed sections of 30 minutes, with each candidate having five minutes to speak.
'IPP is supporting the importance of voters being informed about the vision of the candidates on security, foreign policy, political and economic stability of Romania in the next five years. In such context, it is doing its best to determine the main candidates not to eschew electoral debates, especially because that could be held in an efficient format for the voters to extract the necessary information for and educated vote in the 2014 presidential election,' reads the IPP release.
IPP says their action was initiated because there was no such electoral debate shaping up. AGERPRES
