Social Democrat Party (PSD) spokesperson Gabriela Firea said Monday that Prime Minister Victor Ponta, a candidate in the presidential elections, has taken notice of the fact that the Public Policy Institute (IPP) accepted the organisation of an electoral debate with all candidates, a solution that the PSD leader proposed since October 7.

"Mr. Victor Ponta, a candidate of the PSD, PC [Conservative Party], and UNPR [National Union for the Progress of Romania] has taken notice of the fact that IPP accepted the organisation of an electoral debate with the participation of all 14 candidates registered for the elections of November 2. Victor Ponta maintains his point of view and reiterates that this is the only correct formula, through which all candidates can present their programmes, without arbitrary criteria being applied in regards to the participation in debates", Gabriela Firea shows, according to a press release remitted on Monday to AGERPRES.

She added that Victor Ponta will issue an official answer once all other 13 candidates will confirm their participation.

IPP has announced on Monday that they invite all candidates to an electoral debate before the first round of the presidential elections that will most probably take place on Wednesday, yet with the possibility existing of discussing another date, and with the logistical support of private broadcaster Digi24.

Last week, the IPP had launched this challenge for the main six candidates, among them the PSD chairman, Victor Ponta, who maintained that he would participate only if all candidates are invited. AGERPRES
