Serbia makes progress in fulfilment of obligations to CoE
BELGRADE)- Serbian Minister of Interior Affairs Nebojsa Stefanovic conferred on Tuesday with Samad Seyidov, rapporteur of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) Monitoring Committee.
According to a release issued by the Serbian Interior Ministry (MUP), Seyidov commended the Ministry and other government bodies on the activities conducted in the fight against organised crime and corruption.
He also commended the Serbian MUP on the organisation of the Pride Parade in Belgrade on September 28.
In the talks with the delegation of the Council of Europe (CoE), Stefanovic presented Serbia's legislative activities which will contribute to higher professionalism and transparency in the work of the police and MUP, states the release.
We will set up a system of career promotion and we are already working on activities of the police in the local community, all with a view to improving safety for Serbian citizens, the minister said.
Speaking about Serbia's progress in the European integration process, Stefanovic noted that in the light of adjustments to EU standards, the issues of internal policy are becoming increasingly a matter of foreign policy so these areas have come to be two closely-knit processes.
Stefanovic and Seyidov agreed that the surge of extremism calls for special attention, which is why timely response demands firm determination of the state to counter all modes of expression of hatred and intolerance.
