Serbia, Turkey connected by deep-rooted ties, solid future

BELGRADE - Turkey's Ambassador to Serbia Mehmet Kemal Bozay has hosted a reception to mark the Turkish national holiday, Republic Day, and said that Serbian-Turkish ties have deep roots and a promising, solid future.

The ties are developing in all areas and are beneficial to not only Serbia and Turkey, but the broader region as well, he said at late Wednesday's ceremony.

If we cherish our ties, it will give us more self-confidence and strength on the path towards European Union accession, he said.

Speaking about Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey, Bozay said that he, as an advocate of good relations between Turkey and Serbia and their peoples, would today certainly be proud of the level of solidarity between the two countries, which he said are neighbours even though they do not share a border.

The president, the prime minister and the foreign minister of Turkey are today proud of this in the same way, he noted.

Ambassador Bozay also read a message of peace and solidarity from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to all friendly and brotherly nations and countries on occasion of Turkey's Republic Day.

The ceremony, which marked the 91st anniversary of the declaration of the Republic of Turkey, was attended by Serbian government members, foreign diplomats and figures from religious, cultural and public life in Serbia.
