Dacic, Guigou: Serbia's EU membership is key priority
BELGRADE - Serbia's First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic said during a meeting he had with Chair of the French parliament foreign affairs committee Elisabeth Guigou Saturday that Serbia's membership of the EU was a key foreign policy priority for the country.
Dacic thanked France for its steady support for Serbia's European integration process, the Serbian Foreign Ministry said in a release.
The Serbian foreign minister pointed to the traditional friendship between Serbia and France and their being allies in World War I, as well as to long-standing political, economic and cultural cooperation between the two countries.
Dacic said bilateral relations were very good and the two countries were willing to intensify cooperation, especially in the field of economy.
The two officials discussed the situation in the region and Serbia's role in preserving its stability and strengthening regional cooperation.
Guigou said she was confident that the friendly relationship between France and Serbia would continue improving.
She lauded Serbia's commitment to carrying out reforms on the road European integration, and welcomed the active role Serbia played in regional cooperation and the constructive dialogue Belgrade led with Pristina.
Guigou called for taking the dialogue between France and Serbia on all important issues of mutual interest for the two countries to a higher level.
