Hunor Kelemen, the presidential candidate of the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) said after the polls closed on Sunday that exit polls show a satisfactory result for him, proving his campaign message has reached the voters.

'We can say that in this campaign we managed to send our message, our programme to voters, and I can tell you we got a good score, confirming the link between our voters and UDMR is strong, and will become stronger. I was very pleased to see our message was received both in the areas where large Hungarian communities live and in other areas; we have votes throughout the country, not just in Transylvania, which shows this efforts of mine and of my colleagues has been very important,' Kelemen said in a press conference.

He promised his campaign project will go on, as very important years are coming for Romania.

'I have presented a country project showing that Romania is to become a strong country in the region and in the EU if it respects its citizens and offers respect for the communities and trust in the state institutions. This means we have to carry on this project; the campaign ends, but our work doesn't, and we will keep presenting this project, because I am convinced very important years are coming for Romania's fate, for Romania's change, including for the change of the Constitution and for the positioning of our country within the region and the European Union,' the head of UDMR declared.

He added that he was refraining from pronouncing on the second round of the presidential election.

'We will have a serious analysis over the coming days and we will come to the public to tell people what we think about the second round,' Kelemen concluded. AGERPRES
