Turkey’s best construction projects were awarded in a total of 19 categories at the Sign of the City Awards ceremony, which was hosted by Honorary President of Doğan Holding, Aydın Doğan and Chairperson of Hürriyet Gazetecilik, Vuslat Doğan Sabancı on Nov. 6.

“Turkey has grown and transformed for the last 10-15 years. The construction sector is the motor force of this sociological transformation, as where we live affects how we think and how we behave,” said Vuslat Doğan Sabancı, adding many construction projects had applied to qualify for the competition.

“We are glad to host the premier league players of the construction sector,” she said at the award ceremony, which was pioneered by Hürriyet Gazetecilik. Some 24 completed or continuing construction projects were awarded in the ceremony from among 199 applications in 142 different projects. The jury was headed by famous architect Doğan Hasol.

Minister of Urban Affairs İdris Güllüce attended the ceremony as well as C-levels of leading construction companies across the country.

“Turkey ranks second on the list of the world’s largest construction countries after China. We need to ask the invitees of this ceremony, ‘Why shouldn’t we be first?’ I hope the Sign of the City Awards will be organized every year and become well-known across the world,” Güllüce said.
