Former Foreign Intelligence Service (SIE) chief Teodor Melescanu, whom Prime Minister Victor Ponta has proposed to take up as Foreign Minister said on Monday it depends on President Traian Basescu whether he will take up the post and underscored his professional credentials recommend him in this respect.

'I've accepted to be proposed for the job, the rest depends on the president's approval, i.e. whether I will be named a foreign minister or not. From my point of view, I think I have all the credentials regarding the foreign affairs and defence and so far nobody has denied by competence or my experience in these matters', Melescanu told AGERPRES.

He stressed his main goal is to ensure the voting right for all Romanians and said his first discussion will be with the Central Election Bureau to this effect.

'This is the main reason for my nomination, of course ensuring the voting right for all the Romanians in the diaspora. I will have a first discussion with the Election Bureau and on this occasion I will draw the necessary conclusions with respect to the means that can be used so that all the diaspora Romanians might exercise their voting right', Melescanu said.

Prime Minister Victor Ponta announced on Monday he had sent President Traian Basescu the proposal that Melescanu should take over as foreign minister, after Titus Corlatean had tendered resignation.AGERPRES
