Rethymno troubled Panathinaikos more than Milano did
By George Georgakopoulos
Less than two days after thrashing Milano for the Euroleague, Panathinaikos preserved its perfect record in domestic competitions to remain joint top of the Basket League table along with PAOK, who beat Panionios in Athens.
The Greens scored a 79-70 victory at home over AGO Rethymnou in less convincing fashion than in its Euroleague home wins, having captain Dimitris Diamantidis notch up 21 points on Sunday evening.
PAOK had it US stars shine at Nea Smyrni as coach Soulis Markopoulos led the Thessaloniki team to a 65-61 win over Panionios on Saturday.
Olympiakos, in third, defeated Trikala 87-72 in Piraeus on Monday in a game that had some truly spectacular moments.
Coaching heads continued to roll in the Greek league, with AEK dismissing Vangelis Ziagos after the promoted teams loss at Panelefsiniakos with an 81-72 score. Serb Dragan Sakota is said to have agreed to replace Ziagos, while Panelefsiniakos scored its first win in the league on the debut of Jimmys Koustenis on its bench.
In other games on Saturday, Aris beat its jinx side Nea Kifissia 83-80 in Thessaloniki, Apollon got the better of Kolossos Rhodes (71-55) in Patra and Korivos saw off KAO Dramas 71-69 at Amaliada.
