Social Democrat Party (PSD) Executive Chair Liviu Dragnea declared that the leaders of his party met Reformist Liberal Party (PLR) head Calin Popescu-Tariceanu to guarantee the continuation of the political, economic and social goals of the Social Liberal Union (USL) project.

'We are here today to send a message to the 7.4 million Romanians who, by their vote [for the USL alliance of Social Democrats with the National Liberal Party] in 2012 said they wanted to end an odious regime, a regime who led Romania into a deep economic and moral crisis. A message to all Romanians who, during these years of [President Traian] Basescu's regime, felt oppressed, persecuted and had their wages cut (...). A message for Romanians who voted USL in the parliamentary elections of 2012. We're here to guarantee the political, economic and social goals of the USL project are continued,' Dragnea said at the signing ceremony of the foundation of USL 2.0 made up by PSD and PLR.

He voiced his regret for the absence of former PNL leader Crin Antonescu.

'In November 2010, there were four of us who met to discuss the need and opportunity of a political project to corner this regime — [current prime minister and presidential candidate] Victor Ponta, Crin Antonescu, [Liberal] Radu Stroe and myself. Later, a political project was built, and it was not easily done. (...) I regret Crin Antonescu is not with us,' Dragnea declared.

He also claimed that the USL project will go on when Ponta is president of Romania.
