Advocaat ends stint as coach of Serbia's national team

BELGRADE -- The Football Association of Serbia (FSS) has decided to end the contract with national coach Dick Advocaat, it was reported over the weekend.

The FSS held a meeting with the Dutch coach after the 3-1 defeat against Denmark in Belgrade in a European championship qualifier match on Friday and the two sides agreed to terminate the contract.

The FSS announced tat Radovan Ćurčić, who coaches the national under-21 team, will temporarily take over for the friendly match against Greece on Crete next Tuesday.

Advocaat spent less than four months at the helm of Serbia's national team. The reason for his departure is Serbia's poor start in the European championship qualifications, currently in 4th place in the group, with only one point.
