The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) said on Tuesday two of its members were responsible for the attack in a Jerusalem synagogue that had left four people dead.

Israeli police called the incident a terrorist attack and said the two Palestinian assailants were cousins from east Jerusalem.

PFLP, a left-wing Palestinian militant group, said in a statement the two cousins were its members but did not specify whether it had instructed the cousins to carry out the attack inside the synagogue in west Jerusalem's ultra-Orthodox Har Nof neighborhood.

Hamas, the militant Palestinian group that runs the Gaza Strip, praised the attack.

In a statement, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas condemned the attack on Jewish worshippers in their place of prayer and "the killing of civilians no matter who is doing it".
