Merkel assures Iohannis of support and reiterates importance of two countries' partnership in EU

Romania's president-elect Klaus Iohannis received German Chancellor Angela Merkel's congratulations for the victory obtained in the presidential elections, in a telephone conversation on Tuesday.

"Mrs Merkel was pleased with the vote Klaus Iohannis received in the Sunday ballot and underscored that the Romanian citizens' making this choice was a positive signal. In his turn, Romania's president-elect thanked the German Chancellor for her appreciation. During the discussion, the German official voiced her conviction that in the coming period the bilateral relations between Germany and Romania would be strengthened. At the same time, Mrs Merkel assured Romania's president-elect of her complete support and reiterated the importance of the partnership between the two countries inside the European Union," reads a National Liberal Party (PNL) release remitted to AGERPRES on Wednesday.
