President Basescu hails acceleration of parliamentary procedures by president-elect Iohannis, PM Ponta

President Traian Basescu praises the acceleration of parliamentary procedures by president-elect Klaus Iohannis and Prime Minister Victor Ponta, resulting in the rejection of the amnesty and pardon bill and in stripping the immunity of several MPs to allow criminal investigations.

'I hail both the initiatives of president-elect Klaus Iohannis and the initiative of Prime Minister Victor Ponta, accelerating the proceedings in the Parliament on the rejection of the amnesty pardon law and on the approval of the National Anticorruption Directorate's requests to investigate former ministers and to arrest or search some MPs,' the president stated on Wednesday evening at the Cotroceni Palace.
