Citizens urged to join Europeana 2014-2018 project

BELGRADE - Organizers of the Europeana 2014-2018 called on citizens of Serbia on Tuesday to join the project and provide any items they may possess relating to World War I.

The citizens are urged to bring photos, letters, diaries, medals, films and audio recordings relating to World War I to the city libraries in Belgrade, Cacak and Novi Sad, December 5-6, December 12-13, and December 22-23 respectively.

The items will be digitized, returned to the owners and uploaded on Europeana website.

Jasmina Ninkov, director of the Belgrade City Library, said that this project is of great significance as it offers an insight into a more personal aspect of the Great War.

The manager of the Europeana 2014-2018 project, underlined that the goal of the project is to shed light on the human aspect of WWI, rather than just the military one, adding that it is important for Serbia to share its stories with the rest of the world.

As of 2011, Europeana held 150 such events in 18 European countries.
