Iohannis: With efficient justice, any nation can take amazing steps forward

Romania's President-elect Klaus Iohannis said Wednesday that with efficient justice, any nation can take amazing steps forward, arguing that the ongoing criminal investigations show a scary Romania, a country rife with corruption.

'For a long time now, the Romanian society has been talking about big corruption scandals, while the successive criminal investigations of late depict a sombre landscape, a scary Romania, a country rife with corruption. And yet, we have to understand that a Romania where politicians and business people get together in a toxic alliance to plunder the national budget is an assassinated Romania. We should not shy away from this picture and label, because they show in fact what has become of us as a society, where we are and especially how urgent the change should be. In fact, that is the abnormal Romania with which we want to part as soon as possible to build instead together our Romania, the Romania of normal people,' Iohannis told a conference on Wednesday on anti-corruption sustainability in Romania.
