Chinese prime minister named honorary citizen of Belgrade
BELGRADE - Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang was made honorary citizen of Belgrade, and the motion was unanimously adopted at the Assembly of the City of Belgrade on Friday.
Belgrade Mayor Sinisa Mali said that the Chinese prime minister is offering great support to Belgrade's promotion, development and fostering cooperation between Serbian and China.
It is a great honor and pleasure for me to propose Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang as honorary citizen of the city of Belgrade. He is offering a great personal contribution and support to our city, Mali said.
He noted that the Zemun-Borca bridge, which has been financed by the Chinese government, will be opened by the end of December.
We have witnessed his political support given that it is on his personal initiative that Belgrade has been named the host of the Summit of 16 countries of Southeast Europe, which will be an excellent opportunity for Belgrade and Serbia to show that they can be the center of the region in terms of political and economic activity, Mali underlined.
He underlined that the next year marks the 35th anniversary of the Belgrade-Beijing cooperation.
The decision to name the Chinese prime minister honorary citizen of Belgrade points out that he has contributed to promotion of overall cooperation between institutions of Serbia and China.
Moreover, China was the guest of honor at this year's Book Fair, which is assessed as Belgrade's best book fair to date, while Serbia is scheduled to be the guest of honor at the 2015 Book Fair in Beijing.
