Public debt reaches 67.2 percent of GDP

BELGRADE - Serbia's public debt was EUR 22.21 billion at the end of October this year, or 67.2 percent of GDP, the Ministry of Finance said on Friday.

The public debt's share in GDP grew by 7.6 percent, or around EUR 2 billion, from the start of the year to October, according to the ministry.

The debt rose by EUR 100 million in October alone when compared to the month before.

Serbia's direct liabilities amounted to EUR 19.67 billion, while contingent liabilities were EUR 2.54 billion in October this year.

The share of the public debt in FSP is limited by law to 45 percent.

A public debt of 201.2 percent of GDP was recorded at the end of 2000, when it stood at EUR 14.7 billion, while the lowest value was recorded in 2008, when it was EUR 8.78 billion, or 28.3 percent of GDP.
