Prime Minister Victor Ponta has stated on Tuesday that Justice Minister Robert Cazanciuc will present in the government meeting on Wednesday a draft law to amend the provisions declared unconstitutional by the Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) regarding judiciary control.

"I have discussed with the Justice Minister in view to his coming tomorrow to the Government [meeting] with the amendment [of the Penal Code], which Parliament has the time in this session to also adopt", said Ponta at the Government House.

The Prime Minister explained that an emergency ordinance on the matter is not necessary, as "a political agreement at the level of all parliamentary groups exists".

United States Charge d'affaires in Bucharest, Dean Thompson, has discussed on Tuesday at the Victoria Palace with Justice Minister Robert Cazanciuc regarding the progress registered in the domain of the judiciary as part of the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism (CVM), political sources have announced for AGERPRES.

The same sources say that in the attention of the two officials was also the necessity to amend the Penal Code, so that the provisions declared unconstitutional regarding judiciary control be clarified through an emergency ordinance.

The Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) has issued a decision declaring unconstitutional the penal procedure norms that give the possibility for judiciary authorities to dispose preventive measures of judiciary control and judiciary control on bail for unlimited periods. AGERPRES
