Serbia to play Spain, Germany, Turkey at FIBA EuroBasket

PARIS - The Serbian men's national basketball team has been drawn to play in EuroBasket 2015 Group B in Berlin, and will take on Spain, Turkey, Italy, Iceland and hosts Germany.

The draw ceremony took place at Disneyland Paris on Monday.

After Ukraine gave up on hosting the event due to the political situation in the country, FIBA EuroBasket 2015 will be held from September 5 through 20 in France (Montpellier, Lille), Germany (Berlin), Croatia (Zagreb) and Latvia (Riga).

The groups are as follows:

Group A (Montpellier): France, Finland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Poland, Israel, Russia

Group B (Berlin): Spain, Serbia, Turkey, Italy, Germany, Iceland

C (Zagreb): Croatia, Slovenia, Greece, Macedonia, Georgia, Netherlands

D (Riga): Lithuania, Ukraine, Latvia, Belgium, Czech Republic, Estonia

The group stage of the event will be held from Sept 5 through 11 in Montpellier, Berlin, Zagreb and Riga, with the knockout stage and the final match (September 12-20) to be played at the Lille stadium.

FIBA EuroBasket 2015 is also a qualifying tournament for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Only the finalists will secure Olympic berths, while the teams finishing third to sixth will play qualifications.

France are the defending champions.

Serbia finished seventh at the previous EuroBasket, hosted by Slovenia in 2013.
