Rama: No real change without governing through sense of duty
BELGRADE - Governing through a sense of duty and not of power brings real change, and that is precisely what has released a lot of energy in Albania and put collaboration, transparency and modernization in the forefront, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama said in an exclusive opinion piece for Tanjug ahead of the Third Meeting of Heads of Government of China and Central and Eastern European countries in Belgrade, which Tanjug publishes in full.
Whenever I am asked to write something on economy, I remember the speech of Vaclav Havel at the World Economic Forum in Davos, in 1992.
There, he mentioned the word "economy" a few times, yet he focused his speech on a changing world order, of "non-time and non-history," as he regarded the bipolar system, and its redefinition related to values, human action and human spirit.
The speech did not have any economic or financial orientation, but I think it was very inspiring in terms of thinking about economy and finance and the ways to intervene in these fields.
Yet, what Vaclav Havel re-emphasized in his brilliant speech is that as a leader, if you want to bring the real change, you have to think about governing and citizenship values.
These values constitute the basis of the Albanian Renaissance program that brought our coalition to government through a historical poll result in June 2013.
In this regard, for us, breaking with a governing tradition of patronage of the country by groups in power, means encouraging active citizenship and working for a relation of partnership with the business.
We are witnessing everyday that governing through a sense of duty and not of power brings change faster than predicted.
