Constitutional Court: Brussels agreement is political

BELGRADE -- The Constitutional Court of Serbia considers the Brussels agreement "a political, not a legal issue," and will not assess its constitutionality.

The daily Politika writes that the decision to reject the motion was made in a vote on December 10, supported by a majority of the court's members.

According to the same source, it was preceded by several preparatory hearings, while the main hearing "lasted all day."

The newspaper writes that the court has come up with a 40-page explanation of its decision, but that it is yet to be published on the official website.

The motion was submitted by opposition Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) MPs who sat in the previous parliament.

Justice Minister Nikola Selaković said earlier this year that the court should rule itself incompetent to determine the constitutionality of the Brussels agreement reached during the Kosovo talks, "because it is a political act."
