Museums in Trsic and Zrenjanin nominated for European award
BELGRADE - The museum in Trsic and the Zrenjanin National Museum were listed among 42 museums nominated for the annual European Museum of the Year Award.
The list was recently issued by the European Museum Forum and around 300 museums are running for the prestigious award.
We are happy and satisfied that someone recognised our care for the preservation of the mission of (major Serbian language reformer) Vuk Stefanovic Karadzic, Director of the Vuk Karadzic Centre for Culture Dajana Djedovic told Tanjug and underscored that the nomination would contribute to the promotion of the museum complex in Europe and the rest of the world.
The museum in Trsic had very modest content offer up until recently but the situation has changed considerably now. Three years ago, the Museum of Language and Letters opened which is used for realisation of various programmes including exhibitions, workshops and the Vuk's Assembly as the oldest cultural event in Serbia which gained prominence after all relevant information was made available in several European languages, Djedovic said.
This all contributed to the arrival of the European cultural milieu in Trsic, she said.
The Zrenjanin National Museum has been nominated for the European Museum of the Year Award primarily due to its rich programmes and innovation in operation which aim to bring the programme closer to the audience, Museum Director Vidak Vukovic told Tanjug.
The Museum was built in late 19th century and the collection of weapons of baron Fedor Nikolic of Rudna, grandson of prince Milos Obrenovic, occupies a special place among the exhibits.
The Zrenjanin National Museum won the Mihailo Valtrovic prize for the best museum in Serbia in 2006.
