Pajtic: DS role crucial for Serbian EU integration

BELGRADE - Leader of the Democratic Party (DS) Bojan Pajtic has met on Tuesday with a delegation of the Italian Senate and said that the role of this party was crucial for the initiation of Serbia's European integration process 14 years ago.

In a meeting with Italian Ambassador to Serbia Giuseppe Manzo and Senators Vannino Chiti, Giovanni Mauro and Pietro Liuzzi, Pajtic said that the DS is committed to Serbia's EU accession.

The DS leader said that the economic situation in the country is alarming and that the government measures, in the form of pay and pension cuts, are inappropriate and will only deepen the recession in Serbia.

Pajtic voiced the concern over the fact that Serbia is among 15 slowest growing economies in the world, ranking behind Kenya by the competitiveness index, the DS said in a release.
