St. George Strings to put on New Year’s concert

BELGRADE - The St. George Strings orchestra will perform a traditional New Year's concert at the Kolarac Foundation in Belgrade on Monday, December 29.

The St. George Strings, one of the most representative orchestras in the country with a great number of performances given abroad, will perform under the baton of the chief conductor of the Bellas Artes Opera House company in Mexico City, Srboljub Dinic, who also became a guest chief conductor of the St. George Strings this year.

As is appropriate to good holiday mood, the string orchestra will perform cheerful melodies by opera greats Mozart, Donizetti, Bellini, Verdi and Puccini.

Italian soprano Silvia Dalla Benetta will appear as soloist.

The St. George Strings orchestra was founded in 1992 by a group of former students of the School for Music Talents in Cuprija and reputable violist and professor Petar Ivanovic.

They won their first prize at the International Competition of Musical Youth in Belgrade in 1996 and were invited to give a concert in celebration of UNICEF's 50th Anniversary in London the same year.

The celebrated string orchestra has made over 1,600 concert appearances at home and abroad. Their repertoire includes works from various stylistic periods, from baroque to contemporary music, and they regularly perform compositions by Serbian authors.
