Three Turkish workers killed at tunnel construction site in Iraqi Kurdistan

Turkish companies have been under fire for not implementing proper safety regulations in a year that has been plagued by labor accidents with heavy death tolls.

Three Turkish workers have been killed due to a collapse at a tunnel construction site on a highway near Arbil.

The construction of a portion of the highway between Arbil and Salahaddin is being done by a Turkish company.

The three workers were found under the debris of a structure that had collapsed in the tunnel, officials said. Two of the dead workers were brothers. Another worker broke his leg during the accident.

At least 301 workers were killed at the Soma mine disaster, the worst mine accident in Turkey's history, earlier this year, while 10 workers were killed after an elevator collapsed at the construction site of a tower in central Istanbul. Three workers were also killed at the construction site of Istanbul's third bridge.
The bodies of the workers were to be transported to Turkey via plane.
