AirAsia Flight 8501 Crash Blamed on Bad Weather

Indonesia's meteorological agency announced on Sunday that bad weather had been the triggering factor in the crash of AirAsia Flight 8501.

According to a preliminary report of the Indonesian meteorological agency, BMKG, as cited by the BBC News, icing may have caused the engine to stall.

BMKG claimed that the plane had probably flown into a storm.

The Airbus A320-200 crashed into the Java Sea en route from Indonesia's second city Surabaya to Singapore last Sunday with 162 people on board.

By Sunday, a total of 31 bodies had been recovered from the Java Sea.

The search teams are still looking for the plane's black boxes, with five major parts of the aircraft uncovered by Sunday.
