The meeting will conclude without any planned press statements.

The head of state is set to meet, also on Thursday, the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, while on Friday, he will meet NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, with joint statements being programmed after each of the meetings.

The visit to Brussels is the first foreign visit conducted by the head of state since taking over his mandate.

President Klaus Iohannis said on Thursday, before departing to Brussels that he would convey during the official talks he would have in the Belgian capital city the message that the deepening of the European integration is a priority of his mandate.

"Romania's already in its eighth year of European Union membership, our institutions are substantially consolidated, and our contribution to the European project should be as such. A priority of my tenure will be the deepening of the European integration. I will clearly convey this message. We'll discuss about the steps Romania should take for this thorough integration and for better assuming its NATO member role," Klaus Iohannis told the media on the airport.

"During the talks, I'll approach issues of particular interest for Romania in its relation with the European bodies and NATO," Iohannis added. AGERPRES
